Everything a printed code should be able to do

Once a code is on a menu, a box, or a billboard, reprinting is the expensive part. Dynamic links move the decisions into your account instead.

Made in your browser

Static codes are generated entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a dynamic link or host a file, and we say exactly what those store.

No scan-count paywall

Free dynamic links have unlimited scans and no expiry. A code you printed keeps working; we do not hold it hostage.

Data you can erase

Free plans keep aggregate counts only. Pro per-scan records are kept about 90 days, and you can export or delete them at any time.

What "describe it" actually does

Setting up a dynamic QR code by hand is a stack of small decisions: where it points, whether different people should land in different places, when it should switch on or off, what to call it, and what it should look like. Reticle AI collapses that into one sentence. You describe the job in plain words and it drafts the whole setup at once: a destination, smart routing rules, a schedule, labels, a short private name for your own reference, and a look for the code itself.

Drafting is all it does. The suggestion arrives as a card you read, and nothing is created in your account until you decide to apply it.

What you can ask for

Three of the six examples on the band above build on a free account. "A contact card for my food truck people can save in one tap" gives you a hosted contact card carrying the details you named, with labelled blanks for the ones you did not. "A dark red code with a flame icon for my hot sauce jars" and "A forest green code with a leaf icon for my plant shop" each give you a dynamic link dressed in the colors and center icon you asked for.

Three of them need Pro to build. "Show my lunch menu during the day and my dinner menu after 5pm" (Pro) splits by time of day. "Send iPhones to the App Store and Android to Google Play" (Pro) splits by device platform. "One page with links to all my socials, password protected until launch day" (Pro) is a link page of buttons with a password and a go-live date. Reticle AI will plan any of them for a free account; what changes is whether you can build the result, which is covered under What it costs below.

You review before anything is created

The plan comes back as a card: a one-line summary, a preview of the code, and one row per decision, so the destination, every routing rule, the schedule, the labels, and the colors are all visible before any of them exist. Under the rows sits a plain-words walkthrough of what applying the plan would actually do, and rows that need Pro are marked.

Details it does not have are left as labelled blanks for you to fill in rather than invented, and Apply refuses to run until you have filled them. Applying is a separate, deliberate click, and the plan has no power of its own: close the card instead and nothing has happened.

It also edits codes you already printed

Open a dynamic link under My codes, choose Edit with AI, and describe the change you want. The plan comes back as a set of changes that merge onto that link's current setup rather than replacing it, so a new routing rule does not quietly wipe the schedule you set last month, and you review it the same way.

The printed code never changes. A dynamic code encodes a short link, so the poster, sticker, or menu card in the wild keeps pointing at the same short link while everything behind it moves.

What it costs

Planning is free on any signed-in Reticle account, and how often you can use it is limited per account. Where plans differ is building. A plan is applied whole or not at all. A draft made only of free features, a plain dynamic link or a contact card within the 3 free links, plus labels, a name, and the look, applies on a free account exactly as drafted.

A draft that includes smart routing, a schedule, a password, a link page, or a custom link ending needs Pro. On a free account, the card offers the upgrade in place of the Apply button and nothing at all is created: the free parts of that draft are not built either. See pricing for the full comparison.

What it will not do

It is built to leave a blank rather than make up your details. Asked for a contact card, it fills in what you told it and leaves a labelled blank where a phone number, an email address, or a street address should go, for you to type in yourself. The same goes for a web address it was never given, and any blank it leaves has to be filled before Apply will run.

It will not hand you a code that cannot be read. Colors that would be too low in contrast to scan are adjusted in place where that is possible, and a background too dark for any foreground falls back to the default palette, which is why the card tells you it may have adjusted your colors. And it is not a website builder: it sets up QR codes, the links behind them, and Reticle's own hosted contact cards and link pages, not a site of your own.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI QR code generator?

It is a QR code tool you describe in plain words instead of filling in a form. In Reticle you type one sentence about what the code should do, and Reticle AI drafts a complete dynamic link setup: the destination, any routing rules, a schedule, labels, a short private name, and a look for the code. You read the draft and decide whether to build it.

Do I need to pay to use Reticle AI?

No. Planning is free on any signed-in Reticle account, and how often you can use it is limited per account. Building is where plans differ: a draft made only of free features applies on a free account, while a draft that includes smart routing, a schedule, a password, a link page, or a custom link ending needs Pro. On a free account the card offers the upgrade in place of the Apply button, and nothing at all is created.

Does the AI create the code by itself?

No. Reticle AI drafts a plan, and that plan is a proposal with no power to write to your account. Nothing exists until you press Apply on the plan card. Until then you can read every row, fill in anything it left blank, or close the card and throw the whole draft away.

Can it change a QR code I already printed?

Yes, if it is a dynamic code. Open the link under My codes, choose Edit with AI, and describe the change. The plan merges onto that link's current setup rather than replacing it, and the printed code itself never changes, because a dynamic code encodes a short link and the edit happens behind that link.

What can it set up for me?

A destination, smart routing rules by country, language, device platform, or time of day, a go-live or expiry schedule, a password, a custom link ending (which also needs a custom domain attached to your account), labels, a short private name, a contact card, a link page, and the look of the code: colors, dot and corner shapes, and a center icon from Reticle's built-in set. Several of those are Pro features, and a plan that includes one needs Pro to build.

What happens to what I type?

Your description and your device's time zone are sent through Reticle to Google's Vertex AI Gemini API, which returns the suggested setup. When you are editing an existing link, a summary of that link's current setup goes with it. Reticle does not store your description or the suggestion Gemini returns, and a password is never sent: that part of a plan is only ever yes or no, and you type the password yourself when you apply it. The privacy policy covers this in full.
