A Scanova Alternative Without the Code Allowance

Scanova sells dynamic codes in blocks: 3, 10, 50, 500. Reticle Pro is $12 a month for as many as you want, and the free plan keeps 3 of them permanently rather than for 14 days. Their plan structure below was read off their own pricing page on August 10, 2026.

Everything a printed code should be able to do

Once a code is on a menu, a box, or a billboard, reprinting is the expensive part. Dynamic links move the decisions into your account instead.

Made in your browser

Static codes are generated entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a dynamic link or host a file, and we say exactly what those store.

No scan-count paywall

Free dynamic links have unlimited scans and no expiry. A code you printed keeps working; we do not hold it hostage.

Data you can erase

Free plans keep aggregate counts only. Pro per-scan records are kept about 90 days, and you can export or delete them at any time.

How Scanova's plans are shaped

Scanova prices by the number of dynamic QR codes you are allowed. Their pricing page lists:

Scans are unlimited on those plans, which is worth crediting: a Scanova code does not stop working for being popular. There is a 14-day free trial, no credit card required, and static codes can be made free permanently, though their FAQ notes those cannot be edited or tracked.

Reticle Pro is $12 a month, or $99 a year, for an unlimited number of dynamic codes, with no allowance to size and no tier above it. Their structure above was read off their own pricing page on August 10, 2026.

Why this page does not quote their prices

Scanova's pricing table renders its amounts through a currency switcher covering USD and INR, and those figures did not resolve when this page was written. Rather than lift numbers from a comparison blog and present them as verified, this page quotes only what came directly from the source: the plan names and the code allowances.

Take the current amounts from their own pricing page. That advice applies to this page too, and to every "X vs Y" article you will find on this topic: prices in this market change often, and most of the sites listing them are not checking.

The allowance is the thing to think about

Code allowances look easy to plan for and usually are not, because the number you need is decided by things that have not happened yet: a second location, a seasonal campaign, one code per table, one per product line, an event batch, a code per listing.

The jumps are also large. Ten codes to fifty to five hundred means that outgrowing a plan by one code moves you a whole tier, and you spend most of your time paying for an allowance you are nowhere near using, or squeezing into one you have just exceeded.

Reticle removes the number from the decision. Pro is one price whether you make three codes or four hundred, so the question becomes how you want to work rather than which block to buy. There is also no higher tier, so the price does not move as you grow.

A trial is not a free plan

Scanova's free offering for dynamic codes is a 14-day trial. Reticle's is 3 dynamic codes, permanently, with unlimited scans and no expiry.

The difference matters specifically because of printing. Anything you print during a trial is attached to a subscription decision that arrives on the vendor's clock, and a dynamic code whose plan lapsed is a piece of signage that no longer works. A permanent free code can sit on a real menu, a real sign, or a real box indefinitely, and you decide about paying when you need a fourth code or a Pro feature, not when a timer runs out.

Their permanently free static codes are genuinely free, as ours are. The distinction is only about the editable kind.

What $12 covers here

Unlimited dynamic codes, per-scan analytics with city, device, OS and time exportable to CSV, your own domain on printed codes with custom endings, file codes that put a PDF or image behind the code, smart routing by country, language, platform or time of day, link pages, password protection, scheduling, and bulk CSV import.

Two things are free here that tend not to be elsewhere and are worth naming: vector SVG and PDF export on every static code, and a built-in scanner plus an on-device test scan so you can prove a code reads before it goes to a printer. No competitor in this comparison bundles a scanner.

Printed codes never move between providers

A dynamic code encodes the short link of whoever made it, so a printed Scanova code always resolves through Scanova, a printed Reticle code always resolves through Reticle, and reprinting is the only way across. This is true everywhere in this market and in both directions.

The one way out is to print on a domain you own. Reticle Pro attaches your own domain so codes read go.yourbrand.com/menu, which means the address on the printed piece is yours and a future change of provider is a DNS change rather than a reprint.

Trying it

The generator above works with no account and no watermark. For the dynamic side, the demo workspace is a real Pro account you can look through without signing up, and the free plan's 3 dynamic codes have no clock on them. Full plan detail is on pricing.

Frequently asked questions

How does Scanova structure its plans?

By the number of dynamic QR codes. Their pricing page lists Basic at 3 dynamic codes, Lite at 10, Standard at 50, Pro at 500, and Enterprise as unlimited on a custom quote, plus an Ultra Lite option carrying 1 dynamic code for a one-time fee with lifetime validity. Scans are unlimited on those plans. There is a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and static codes can be created free permanently but cannot be edited or tracked. Checked on their pricing page on August 10, 2026.

Why does this page not quote Scanova's prices?

Because their pricing table renders its amounts through a currency switcher, showing USD and INR, and the figures did not resolve when this page was written. Quoting a number would have meant taking it from a third party rather than from the source. The plan structure above did resolve and is quoted directly. Check the current amounts on their own pricing page, and treat any comparison site listing exact prices, including this one, as something to verify.

What does Reticle charge instead?

One tier. Reticle Pro is $12 a month or $99 a year for an unlimited number of dynamic codes, with no allowance to size and no higher tier. It includes per-scan analytics, your own domain on printed codes with custom endings, file codes, smart routing, link pages, password protection, scheduling, and bulk CSV import. The free plan is $0 for unlimited static codes plus 3 dynamic codes with unlimited scans and no expiry.

Is a free trial the same as a free plan?

Not for something you print. A trial gives you the product for a fixed window, so anything you printed during it depends on a subscription decision arriving on the vendor's schedule rather than yours, and a dynamic code whose plan lapsed is signage that stopped working. Reticle's 3 free dynamic codes have no trial clock, no scan cap, and no expiry, so a code can sit on something real indefinitely without a payment decision attached to it.

Can printed codes be moved between the two?

No, in either direction. A dynamic code encodes the short link of whoever created it, so a printed Scanova code always resolves through Scanova and a printed Reticle code always resolves through Reticle. Reprinting is the only migration path anywhere in this market. Printing on a domain you own is the only way to avoid it, which Reticle Pro supports.
