Everything a printed code should be able to do

Once a code is on a menu, a box, or a billboard, reprinting is the expensive part. Dynamic links move the decisions into your account instead.

Made in your browser

Static codes are generated entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a dynamic link or host a file, and we say exactly what those store.

No scan-count paywall

Free dynamic links have unlimited scans and no expiry. A code you printed keeps working; we do not hold it hostage.

Data you can erase

Free plans keep aggregate counts only. Pro per-scan records are kept about 90 days, and you can export or delete them at any time.

What a dynamic QR code is

A dynamic QR code doesn't encode your destination directly. It encodes a short link (like open-qr.link/aB3xY9) that forwards each scanner to whatever destination the link currently points at. Change the destination and every printed copy of the code follows, instantly, with no reprinting. The code on your poster, packaging, or business card stops being a commitment and becomes a pointer you control.

When to choose dynamic over static

Choose static when the content should live in the image itself: nothing is stored, nothing is tracked, and the code works forever without depending on anyone. Choose dynamic when the destination might change, when you want scan counts, or when the same printed code needs to do smarter things later. The full comparison is in our guide to dynamic QR codes.

Scan stats included, honestly scoped

Every dynamic link counts its scans: a total, a per-day tally, device class, hour of day, and country, shown under My codes. On a free account that is all that exists: never a per-scan record, and a scanner's IP address is never stored. Pro accounts get per-scan analytics: each scan recorded with approximate city, device, OS, and time, kept about 90 days and exportable to CSV.

No scan caps, no expiry

Scans are unlimited on every plan and free links never time out. Some services cap free scans or quietly expire codes, which breaks the code after it's printed and out of your hands; Reticle treats a printed code as a promise. Even if you cancel Pro, links you made keep serving: you lose the ability to edit Pro features, never the links themselves.

What Pro adds

The free plan includes 3 dynamic links. Reticle Pro removes the link limit and adds your own domain on your codes (like go.yourdomain.com, with custom endings like /menu), per-scan analytics, smart routing (different destinations by country, language, device platform, or time of day), file QR codes that host a PDF or image behind the code, bulk CSV import, and link controls: passwords, go-live dates, expiry dates, and scan limits. See pricing for the full comparison.

Sign in (free), switch the URL tab to Dynamic, and paste your destination. Style the code, download it, and manage everything (destination, name, stats, on/off) under My codes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static code bakes your content into the image itself: private, permanent, and impossible to edit. A dynamic code encodes a short link instead, and that link forwards scanners to a destination you can change at any time, even after the code is printed. Dynamic codes also count their scans; static codes track nothing.

Do dynamic QR codes expire?

No. A dynamic link keeps working for as long as it exists in your account and is switched on. There is no renewal date, the free plan does not time out, and scans are unlimited on every plan. Some services cap free scans, which can break a code you already printed; Reticle does not.

How many dynamic QR codes are free?

The free plan includes 3 dynamic links with unlimited scans and full styling. Reticle Pro removes the link limit entirely and adds a custom domain, per-scan analytics, smart routing, passwords and scheduling, and file hosting.

What do you record when someone scans my code?

On a free account, aggregate counts only: a total, a per-day tally, a coarse device class, an hour-of-day tally, and a per-country tally. Never a per-scan record, and a scanner's IP address is never stored. While an account is on Pro, its links also record each scan individually (time, approximate city, device, OS), kept for about 90 days and exportable to CSV. The privacy policy spells out both modes in full.

Can I put my own domain on a dynamic QR code?

Yes, with Pro: attach a domain you own, like go.yourdomain.com, and new links you create encode it instead of open-qr.link, with custom link endings like /menu. Codes you already printed keep working exactly as they are.

What happens to my links if I cancel Pro?

They keep working. Links on your custom domain keep their domain, smart routing rules keep serving, files already behind file links keep being served, and passwords, schedules, and scan limits you set keep applying. You lose the ability to create or edit Pro features, not the links themselves: a printed code is never broken by a plan change.
