A QR Tiger Alternative Built Around Printed Codes

QR Tiger meters dynamic codes by plan and stops free ones at 500 scans. Reticle Pro is $12 a month for unlimited dynamic codes, and no Reticle code, free or paid, ever stops working because it got scanned too many times. Their figures below were checked on their own pricing page on August 10, 2026.

Everything a printed code should be able to do

Once a code is on a menu, a box, or a billboard, reprinting is the expensive part. Dynamic links move the decisions into your account instead.

Made in your browser

Static codes are generated entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a dynamic link or host a file, and we say exactly what those store.

No scan-count paywall

Free dynamic links have unlimited scans and no expiry. A code you printed keeps working; we do not hold it hostage.

Data you can erase

Free plans keep aggregate counts only. Pro per-scan records are kept about 90 days, and you can export or delete them at any time.

The short version

Both tools make dynamic QR codes: codes you can repoint after they are printed. The difference is how the codes are counted and what happens to one that gets popular.

QR Tiger allocates dynamic codes per plan. Their pricing page lists 3 on the free plan, capped at 500 scans each, then 12 codes on Regular at US$7 a month, 200 on Advanced at US$16, and 600 on Premium at US$37. Reticle Pro is one price for unlimited dynamic links, $12 a month or $99 a year, and no Reticle plan has ever limited how many times a code can be scanned. Their figures here were read off their own pricing page on August 10, 2026; check it for current billing terms, since annual and month to month rates can differ.

Free plans: the difference is the scan cap

Both free plans give you 3 dynamic codes, so on paper they match. The gap is what a free code does under load. A QR Tiger free code is listed at 500 scans. A Reticle free code has no scan limit and no expiry date.

That matters more than it sounds, because a dynamic code's whole job is to be printed on something you cannot easily take back. A scan cap means the sign in your window, the sticker on your packaging, or the card in the customer's wallet stops working on a schedule set by how well it worked. Reticle will not do that to a printed code, and that is a deliberate design decision rather than an oversight: it is written into how the free plan is bounded.

Static codes are free and unlimited on both, and on Reticle that includes a logo, full styling, and vector SVG export with no watermark.

Paid plans: metered codes against unlimited

If 12 dynamic codes is genuinely all you will ever need, QR Tiger's Regular plan is cheaper than Reticle Pro, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. US$7 beats $12.

The comparison turns as soon as you outgrow that. Their next step is US$16 a month for 200 codes, which is more than Reticle Pro costs for an unlimited number. And code allocations have a habit of being outgrown in ways nobody plans for: a second location, a seasonal campaign, one code per table, one per product line, a batch for an event. Reticle Pro removes the count from the decision entirely, which is also why there is no higher tier to be upsold into later.

What you get on Reticle that QR Tiger does not sell

A built-in scanner and a test scan. Reticle has a full QR scanner at /scan and an on-device Test scan in the generator, so you can confirm a code reads correctly before it goes to a printer. No major QR generator bundles one, which is strange, because reading the code back is the only real proof the code works.

Static codes that never touch a server. Reticle builds static codes in your browser. The content of a static code is never sent anywhere, which is a meaningful difference if the code carries a Wi-Fi password or a personal contact card.

Your own domain on the printed code. Reticle Pro attaches a domain you own, so codes read go.yourdomain.com/menu instead of anyone else's brand. This is the single feature that prevents the lock-in described below from ever applying to you again.

Smart routing, link pages, passwords, and scheduling are included in the one Pro price rather than distributed across tiers, along with per-scan analytics and file codes. The full list is on pricing.

The part nobody advertises: printed codes do not transfer

If you have already printed dynamic codes with QR Tiger, you cannot move them to Reticle without reprinting. The printed code physically encodes their short link, so it will always resolve through their servers, and no competitor can adopt it. This works the same way in the other direction and it is true of every dynamic QR provider, including this one.

So the honest advice is to treat the choice as a printing decision, not a software decision, and to consider a custom domain seriously if you are printing anything in volume. A code on a domain you own is the only version of this that leaves you free to change your mind later, because the address on the paper belongs to you rather than to your vendor.

Trying it without committing anything

The generator on this page is live and needs no account: pick a type, style it, and export a PNG or an SVG with no watermark. To see the dynamic side, the demo workspace is a real Pro account you can look through without signing up, and the free plan's 3 dynamic links are enough to run a genuine test on real signage before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Reticle and QR Tiger?

How dynamic codes are counted. QR Tiger's pricing page allocates them per plan: 12 on Regular, 200 on Advanced, 600 on Premium, and 3 on the free plan with a limit of 500 scans on each. Reticle Pro is one price, $12 a month or $99 a year, for unlimited dynamic links, and no Reticle plan limits how many times a code can be scanned. Their figures were checked on their pricing page on August 10, 2026.

Is Reticle cheaper than QR Tiger?

Not at the entry price, and it depends on how many codes you need. QR Tiger's Regular plan is listed at US$7 a month for 12 dynamic codes, which is cheaper than Reticle Pro at $12 if 12 codes is genuinely all you need. Their next step up is US$16 a month for 200 codes. Reticle Pro is $12 for as many as you want, so the comparison turns in Reticle's favor as soon as you outgrow the smallest paid plan. Check their pricing page for current billing terms, since annual and month to month rates can differ.

Can I move a QR code I already printed from QR Tiger to Reticle?

Not without reprinting it. A dynamic code encodes the short link of whoever made it, so a code printed with a QR Tiger short link will always resolve through QR Tiger, and no other service can take it over. That is true in both directions and it is worth knowing before you commit a print run. If you want to be free of this next time, put a dynamic code on your own domain: Reticle Pro lets you attach a domain you own, so the printed code carries your address and you keep it whatever you decide later.

What happens to my codes if I stop paying?

On Reticle, a printed code keeps working. Dynamic links you already created keep resolving and keep counting scans when Pro lapses, and what you lose is the ability to edit the Pro-only settings on them, not the redirect itself. Static codes are unaffected by any plan, because they contain the data outright and do not touch a server. Check any provider on this point specifically, including this one, because it decides whether a lapsed subscription is an inconvenience or a pile of dead signage.

Do I need an account to try Reticle?

Not for static codes. Every static type, all the styling, a logo or a center icon, and PNG, SVG, JPEG and PDF export are free on this page with no sign-up and no watermark. An account is only needed for dynamic codes, the kind you can repoint after printing, and the free plan includes 3 of those with unlimited scans and no expiry.
